FUMER will be sending a Volunteers In Mission team to God’s Country Community Ministries (GCCM) in Newberry, located in Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula where a FUMER team has served eight times since 2015. Our Mission Trip dates are August 9 – 15; traveling north on Sunday August 9, working Monday through Friday, returning home on Saturday August 15.
The Dunlap Ministry Center provides on-site living arrangements for our group. Partnering with Ministry Center Staff and local volunteers, we will work together, worship together and share God’s love with those we encounter. We’ll perform a variety of tasks depending upon the needs of GCCM clientele during our stay. Home repairs and accessibility projects such as ramps and porches are common tasks. Additionally we’ll work around the Dunlap Ministry Center sorting and organizing donated goods for the free store, packaging diapers, personal needs items and food for distribution, cooking, cleaning and working on maintenance projects that keep the ministry center functioning. Our time in the U.P. coincides with the Wild Blueberry Festival and the ladies at the Paradise United Methodist Church need help baking and setting up for their fundraiser. 1 Peter 4:10 tells us “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”. So now is the time to consider being part of our team. All skillsets are needed and we welcome new people to be part of the team. If you can’t serve for the entire week, partial week volunteers are invited to participate. If you’re interested in participating or want to know more about serving, contact Eric Larson at ericmlarson@ermichigan.com or phone 517 290-1951.
